Lowfire Salt

“I have been doing stoneware salt-firing for many years and I just love it, but several years ago, my friend, the amazing potter Terry Shepherd from Grand Junction, CO, introduced me to the process of low-fire salt, a process he learned from his buddy Paul Soldner. Soon after, I received a grant from the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation to build my own lowfire-salt kiln. With my long time friend, artist Paul (Pablo) Whitney, we were able to build a coffin size low-fire salt kiln that he and I have been firing several times a year. *Paul and I initially were involved with the construction of a wood-fired kiln back in the mid 80’s, seen below in the photo  bottom left and we used the same bricks to construct this kiln.”
